Old Fitzgerald Bottled in Bond 1971/1977 6yo
A fantastic example of old Stitzel-Weller produced Old Fitzgerald bourbon. Stitzel-Weller was run by the legendary Julian ‘Pappy’ Van Winkle, and Old Fitzgerald was his pride and joy; he bought it for the princely sum of $10,000 from Old Judge distillery at the close of prohibition in 1933.
This was bottled in the mid-1970s, shortly after the Van Winkle family had been forced to sell the distillery to Somerset Imports, who promptly changed its name to what they felt was the more marketable Old Fitzgerald distillery.
This is a Bottled in Bond version of the 6 year old bourbon, however, as an export bottling it was not required to be filled at the requisite 100 US proof stated by 1897 Bottled in Bond Act in the US. Instead, this is 86 US proof.
