Owned by the spirits powerhouse Diageo the Lagavulin Distillery has stood tall for many years, since 1816 to be exact. The distillery itself sits in the village of Lagavulin on the south side of the island Islay off Scotland’s West Coast. Most whisky connoisseurs name Lagavulin to be their first whisky that inspired them to follow whisky and an industry basked in mystery and wonder. The name Lagavulin is an anglicisation of Lag a’ Mhuilinn, the Scottish Gaelic for hollow of the mill.
The theme of this years Diageo Special Releases is ‘Rare By Nature’, how fitting this bottling is to the release name. Matured in refill American oak casks for no less than 12 years. Bottled at 56.4% abv and extremely limited availability worldwide.
