Black Maple Hill Premium Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey (Original Release)
Critical Acclaim-
96 Points, Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate”I don’t know much about this offering other than it is called a Limited Edition and comes from the Black Maple Hill Distilling Co. in Bardstown, KY. A foresty, earthy, foreboding style of bourbon, it possesses a dark amber color and a powerful, spicy, peppery personality displaying hints of maple syrup and caramelized fruit. Unctuously textured, rich and concentrated, its style reminds me somewhat of the 20-year old Pappy Family Reserve Bourbon, but of course the Black Maple Hill is far less expensive and easier to obtain. It is an impressive, rich, persistent bourbon with no hard edges and a long finish.”
Critic tasting note: “Huge waves of corn perfume settle down after aeration with added fragrances of cotton candy, old oak, baked banana, honey and brown sugar. Palate entry is honey sweet and viscous; by midpalate the sweetness gets subdued by a zesty note of spice. Concludes resiny, lip-smackingly corny and sweet.” – 92/100, Wine Enthusiast
Black Maple Hill is owned by Californian company, CVI Brands. They do not own a distillery and contract the bottling of the brand to outside sources, initially with Julian Van Winkle in 2000, and then Kentucky Bourbon Distillers, who produced this bottling. KBD eventually had to reserve their warehoused stocks for their own popular Willett Family Reserve brand, so CVI have been sourcing their from the Stein distillery in Oregon since 2014. This is from the original KBD/Kentucky Bourbon release.
