Balblair 15 Years Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
Volume: 700ml ABV: 46% Age: 15 Years Old Country: Scotland
It is not only playing a big part in the movie ‘Angels Share’ that has made this distillery famous but the exceptional whisky it produces. This distillery was built in 1790 however was built on a site that had sited a distillery 40 years prior. This area of the Dornoch Firth is well known for its ancient archaeology. The water source for this distillery is a burn (or stream for the Australian readers) called Allt Dearg which helps this distillery produce 1,330,000 litres of whisky per year. This is one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland and has been built in an amazingly scenic part of the country which boasts peaty streams and lush green fields. From this distillery you should expect a wonderfully light and fresh whisky with a nutty aftertaste and clean finish, a delightful memorable whisky.
This Balblair aged 15 years is part of the newly launched core range from this old distillery. The distillery decided to sat goodbye to Vintages and move to age statements. Smart move in a market that is losing age statements every day. This expression of Balblair was first matured in ex-Bourbon American oak casks then it was transferred into first fill Spanish oak butts. Not so much of a finish but a maturation. A big bold whisky with heaps of fruit and chocolate flavours.
Our Tasting Notes
Nose: Honey sweetness with poached apples and a zesty fresh approach. There is some heaviness to the whisky with chocolate, dates and walnuts and a slight espresso aroma.
Taste: Dried apricots, raisins and sultanas, almond and stewed apples. Dark chocolate leads to ginger and orange.
Finish: Cocoa, old oak, the dates return and there’s caramel sweetness.
