Willett 16 Year Old Bicentennial Commemorative Bourbon 1959 / Cork & Bottle
Distilled in 1959 and bottled at 107 proof after 16 years of aging exclusively for Cork & Bottle by the Willett Distillery.
The Willett family has a strong history in the whiskey industry with members producing whiskey shortly after the Civil War. The business in its modern form was founded by Thompson and Johnny Willett in 1936 on the family farm. In 1984 , the company was purchased by Even Kulsveen, Thompson’s son-in-law forming Kentucky Bourbon Distillers Ltd. The brand remains within the family holdings.
From the time of the purchase until 2012, the whiskeys were produced at unspecified locations within Kentucky. In 2012, the company opened a new distillery and returned to using the Willett name as its primary trading identity.
As well as the Willett Family Estate collection of single-barrel releases – which feature a selection of straight ryes – the company also produces the Johnny Drum and Old Bardstown ranges of straight Bourbons for the general market. There are multiple other whiskeys in the company portfolio, primarily produced in small batches.
