A. H. Hirsch Bourbon 20 Years Old Red Wax Scuffed Label
Distilled in spring 1974 at the Pennco Distillery Schaefferstown, Pennsylvania, this limited release A H Hirsch Finest Reserve is considered to be one of the greatest bourbon whiskies. There are very few bottles left anywhere in the world and even fewer in immaculate condition, with perfect wax seal and labels.
The whisky was originally commissioned by a local farmer, A Hirsch who in his old age, having never bottled the spirit, sold the entire lot (almost 400 barrels) to Gordy Hue (famous for “inventing” Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve). Gordy originally had a deal with the Van Winkles to bottle and sell Family Reserve and when they ran out of the legendary Stitzel Weller “juice” he was on the lookout for a high quality alternative. This is how the legend of A H Hirsch began. Most of the stock was transferred into stainless steel tanks to keep it at an age statement of 16 years. However some were matured for longer in barrel and subsequently bottled at 18, 19, and 20 years.
