GlenAllachie 2008 Single Cask Australian Release Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
Volume: 700ml ABV: 56.3% Age: 10 Years Old Country: Scotland
GlenAllachie Distillery was built in Aberlour in 1967 and was a result of the United States led whisky boom around the world. Following two decades of operation the distillery was purchased by Invergordon Distillers, who then flipped the distillery over to Pernod Ricard after owning it for four years. During this time the distillery was mostly closed. In July 2017 Pernod Ricard was sold to The GlenAllachie Distillers Company which was owned and operated by former BenRiach Master Distiller Billy walker who has a very impressive resume in the whisky industry. It was then the distillery was given a capital ‘A’ in tradition that GlenDronach and BenRiach had been given a few years before.
Bill Walker now has a distillery full of whisky with big fruity characteristics to play with and we are already seeing some spectacular bottlings emerging from the distillery. GlenAllachie’s new core range was released in June 2018 and it has been a hit so far amongst whisky connoisseurs.
This once off never to be repeated Australian Exclusive bottling of GlenAllachie has been the talk of the town. Distilled in November 2008 it has spent 10 years maturing in a virgin oak cask. This is a very rare cask to use when maturing single malt whisky in Scotland and more distilleries are trying their hand at using this sort of cask. What Billy Walker has achieved here is pure genius and we should only hope that they repeat this style of whisky again but in larger numbers. Only 270 bottles available.
Our Tasting Notes
Nose: Spice and vanilla lead to ripe bananas, date and figs and some dark chocolate covered shortbread.
Palate: It’s all about that vanilla and spice, the combination with tropical fruits and dried dark fruity flavours in truly unique.
Finish: Dark chocolate and heavy oak but very well balanced.
